Self Assessment Essay

The most meaningful assignment of this semester was my language narrative analysis, the reason being that I got to experience many different stories from people who had trouble with language like myself. It made me feel more accepted in a way. Also sharing my own story with people was something new for me, it felt nice because I will never really talk about the challenges I had to go through being a person with Spanish as their first language.

There were many pieces of work that helped me a lot to achieve my learning goals. Analyzing other people experiences had helped me learn more about language and how our society uses language to create decrimination, like The language narrative analysis helped me to achieve learning goal number one, “recognize the role of language attitudes and standards in empowering, oppressing, and hierarchizing languages and their users, and be open to communicating across different languages and cultures.”  I have read many texts that show how lenguague is used as something discriminatory and how the people that have beenn thorught this have felt this like a piece from Amy Tan called “Mother Tounge”, a writing where the Amy tan explains how her mother was being look down upon and descriminated because her English is not im the lengüetee ideology of this country, and this helped me to achieve learning goal number two, “explore and analyze, in writing and reading, a variety of genres and rhetorical situations.”  Another goal I was able to accomplish was because of the Peer reviews, this helped me to achieve learning goal number three, “develop strategies for reading, drafting, collaborating, revising, and editing.” This is because we had to revise and read a peer essay to try to make it better for them, we had to explain the things they did good and the things they needed to improve on. My rhetorical analysis essay about the text of Amy tan “Mother tongue” helped me to achieve learning goal number four, “recognize and practice key rhetorical terms and strategies when engaged in writing situations.” because we had to analyze and find the rhetorical analysis that Amy Tan used to engage the readers. Doing my class facilitation work with my group to inform people and help them understand more about different aspects of language and race decrimintaions about Spanish speakers helped me to achieve learning goal number five, “engage in the collaborative and social aspects of writing processes.” Printing my narrative analysis and sharing it with some people to review it and give me advice on what to improve has helped me to achieve learning goal number six, “understand and use print and digital technologies to address a range of audiences.” The workshops on zoom, that explain to us how to use the CCNY library to find sources of any kind, like primary and secondary sources. Also the research project helped me to achieve learning goal number seven, “locate research sources (including academic journal articles, magazine and newspaper articles) in the library’s databases or archives and on the Internet and evaluate them for credibility, accuracy, timeliness, and bias.” The cooperative source report has help me understand my source and create summaries or explanations to show what do I want to use from the source to support my text in a writing and this helped me to achieve learning goal number eight, “compose texts that integrate your stance with appropriate sources using strategies such as summary, critical analysis, interpretation, synthesis, and argumentation.” Creating pieces of writing with evidence from multiple sources and citing my sources correctly, Also the cooperative source report assignment where I had to find eight different sources and analyze what I’m going to use from them, and cite the authors work  has helped me to achieve learning goal number nine, “practice systematic application of citation conventions.” 

At the end of everything I have accomplished a lot of goals with the work I have done. Many of these things have helped me understand how to write better, how to use evidence in the correct way. Also it has teached me how to analyze a piece of writing correctly. Everything that has been given to me has been a good thing for my writing and analyzing skills. This Self assessment help me realized that i have learned a lot throughout this course.
